Astronomical Data




     In this section, you will be able to find out astronomincal data for a location of your choice. Astronomical data is only available for locations in the United States and its territories. Within each data set, you will see the sunrise/sunset times, moonrise/moonset times, civil twilight start and end times, and the current phase of the moon. In addition, you can get any one of the preceeding pieces of data in a yearly table for a location of your choosing, such as sunrise/sunset times for Detroit, Michigan. Astronomical data is available for many years in advance of the present time and many years before the present time.

Obtain Data for a Specific Date  


     You can obtain the times of sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, the beginning and end of civil twilight, and information on the moon's phase by specifying the DATE and PLACE below and clicking on the "Get data" button.

     The place name you enter must be a city or town in the U.S. The place's location will be retrieved from a database with over 22,000 locations available. Either upper-case or lower-case letters or a combination of both may be used. Spell out place name prefixes, i.e. "East Orange," "Fort Lauderdale," and "Mount Vernon,". The only exception is "St.," which is entered as an abbreviation with a period, i.e. "St. Louis."

Obtain Data for Entire Year  



     This data set provides a way for you to obtain a table of the times of sunrise/sunset, moonrise/moonset, or the beginning and end of twilight, for one year. Simply specify the year, the type of table, and location in the form below and click-on the "Compute Table" button. The table will provide the data requested in local standard time on a 24-hour clock; for example, 1836 means 6:36 p.m., local, standard time.
